Free Download – 1944 Butterick Fashion News

I’ve been thinking about making eBooks for a while now and decided to test the waters by digitizing an original copy of the April 1944 issue of Butterick Fashion News.

I have made this download available to you for FREE as both a PDF and an eBook that you can view on an iPad or similar device. It’s 15 pages of amazing WWII era fashion inspiration, and it would have been near criminal of me not to share it with you!

Please feel free to link to this page, pin this page, or send your friends here. Please do not redistribute, re-post, or sell these downloads (in whole or part) anywhere else. I have made it available FREE for you here on Lucky Lucille!

If you appreciate these little peeks into Fashion/Sewing history as much as I do, buy me a cuppa’ coffee to say thanks! Only if you want to, of course 😉

Here ya go!

To open the eBook you must click the download button from an iPad or iPhone in Safari browser, with iBooks installed. A new browser window will open and will appear blank for several seconds. It’s a pretty large file (14.5MG) so the screen will look as if nothing is happening as the file loads, but soon you will be prompted to open the eBook in iBooks or a similar application from that browser window.

The PDF should open on any computer, tablet, and/or browser, but may take a little while to load up. Again, the images are large!

Please let me know if you have any problems with the downloads.

Great! I love being able to find sewing resources that are distinctive and easy to get.

  • Older vintage catalogs and magazines are so rare to come by, and it’s a shame since they’re such great resources. I absolutely love that you took the time to digitize this for everyone. Thank you! 🙂

  • This is so cool! Thanks for taking the time to do this! 🙂

  • Wonderful! I have some old publications I’ve been wanting to do the same with. I need to verify no copyright issues and then find the time to actually do it. Thanks again for sharing.

    • Rochelle

The copyright laws can be really conflicting, but here’s some info that may help you:

Launching an “official” investigation can cost a lot of money and still may be inconclusive. In theory, this periodical is now public domain. Part of the reason why I’ve republished it for free is because I’m not looking to make a profit on someone else’s work. I just wanted to share some inspiration with those who will appreciate it 🙂

  • Seriously awesome, thank you very much, sweet gal! How thoughtful, generous, and wonderfully nice of you. Relaxing vintage evening reading here I come!

    ♥ Jessica

  • Thank you so much for sharing! Such great inspiration! =)

  • yay! I love this time period!

  • This is awesome! I would love a big print to hang in my sewing area!

  • Thanks for sharing! I have a Fall/Winter issue. I can’t remember the year off the top of my head, but I think it may be ’44 as well.

  • Wow, this is so cool. Thank you!

  • You’re the best!! Thanks!

  • Riza

Hi, when I tried to download the ebook on my iPad it told me safari could not download the file. Just thought I would let you know. On the computer though, the catalog is absolutely beautiful.

    • Rochelle

Sorry about that, I know it’s been downloaded on other iPads without issue so I’ll have to do some troubleshooting and see if I can find the problem. Thanks for alerting me!

    • Rochelle

I just tried to download the ebook to my iPhone and it would not download the file at first because I had the newsstand installed but not iBooks. Apparently you need iBooks for it to work. Could that possibly be the issue for you?

      • Riza

Yes, that was exactly the problem. I downloaded iBook and now it works perfectly. Thank you for this wonderful catalog.

        • Rochelle

You are very welcome. I’m happy it’s working for you now 🙂

  • Just wanted to thank you for such a nice gift!

  • Thank you!!!!

  • Oh goody!!!! Thanks so much! Going to download this ASAP!

  • Oh my! Thank you so much, this is fabulous!
