New Shoes!

I got a new pair of shoes today! The ugliest most ridiculously awesome shoes ever. Vibram Five Finger shoes. I know! Haters go on and hate! They’re AWESOME!! I’ve been hiking in flip flops lately since it’s way too hot for my winter hiking boots, (Spoiler alert: you can’t actually hike in flip flops) so I desperately needed something that wasn’t …well, a flip flop. Sooooo my wonderfully amazing better half made it his mission to get me appropriate foot wear this afternoon. He’s so sweet :)

I’ve heard good things about Vibram’s, but also knew they were wicked expensive, so I never really gave them a serious thought before today. I walked into Eastern Mountain Sports, saw the ugly finger shoes and tried a pair on just for my amusement. Well long story short I never took them off. AND! This really must have been meant to be since they were on sale!!

William ended up getting a pair of New Balance shoes with the Vibram soles. They’re just as light, but lets face it, totally not as cool as my shoes!

We immediately took our new shoes (and Lucille) for a walk when we got home. I was amazed at how much I could feel through them! You can feel sand and grass and rocks and mud… but somehow it doesn’t hurt to walk in them. So neat. They’re perfect for people like me who have little flat paddle feet with no arches. The only thing that isn’t perfect is the fit. I have really long skinny feet so it takes me a second to get all my toes aligned in the proper place, and my pinky toe doesn’t quite fill the last slot. But whatever. They still feel great!

Chyeah. Check out how cool I am dudes. Like, so cool. (Sarcasm. They’re hideous, I know. Still don’t care.)

They’re totally sweet for climbing things! They let your monkey climbing toes have full range of motion. P.s. Wil totally copied me. I climbed first, so again (in case you had any doubts), I’m way cooler.

Totally stylin’ as a tom boy hipster hiker extraordinaire! …actually I’m pretty sure hipsters want nothing to do with these shoes. Pshh. Whatever. I’m too cool for hipsters.

Daawwwww look how cute my baby is :) THE cutest. Oh, and if that face isn’t cute enough, check out the video I posted on facebook! (…and then laugh at me because I have no clue how to use video mode on my camera lolz!!)

On the way home we totally had to stop and try some rad Parkour moves. AKA trying to look cool while throwing ourselves against a giant wooden wall. Good thing we had new shoes to help us look way more cool ;)

I’m really enjoying having a day off with Wil to do fun things like this. Too bad he starts his new job on Monday and then it’s back to normal people schedules. :(

Oh well, what do ya do.

I hope everyone has a super awesome weekend!

p.s. I’m not actually cool. In case that wasn’t obvious ;)

Music Lately

I just wanted to share two musicians that I can’t get enough of lately!! Like, I’m mildly obsessed with both of these guys. (I’m sure you won’t blame me after watching the videos!)

Dion and The Belmonts.
He makes man-whoring look so classy doesn’t he?! lolz

and Wynonie Harris
The dancing is fantastic!! I really need to get back into swing…

I’m definitely a fan of old music. Especially 40′s to early 60′s music. Rockabilly, Early Rock & Roll, Big Band & Swing – It’s just so good!

What’s your favorite kind of music?

I survived my first show!

Well. I did it. I survived  my first craft show! The experience alone was worth it, plus I came home with a bit of extra cash too which never hurts ;) I didn’t really give myself any kind of goals or expectations since I had NO idea what it would be like, but all in all I had a lot of fun and I met some awesome people. That’s all that matters!

Here are a few photos from the day…

I was running a little late that morning (which I hate!!) so I was seriously stressing that I wouldn’t have enough time to set up. Luckily I seemed to be on the same time schedule as most of the other vendors so I didn’t end up doing the late walk of shame! I had the perfect amount of time to set up and re-organize things with about 15 mins to spare before doors opened.

I wasn’t sure how much of what items to make. It’s so hard to try and guess what will sell! I made a pattern for those retro style headbands two days before the show and managed to crank out 30 to bring with me. They sold the best by far! I think I only came home with 10.

I have to give my darling the hugest thank you in the world for sitting with me, helping with all the technology/money stuff, and most importantly, keeping me sane! And yes I made him wear a shirt that matched my table. He obliged with no complaints. He loves me that much ;)

I also have to thank my mom for helping me paint my crates and other table items, and iron my headbands as I frantically top stitched them the day before. Thanks mom!

My mom and my brother, as well as my dad and step mom all drove up from New York just to see my show. It really means the world to me that they support my crazy sewing ventures that much. I do have a lot of artists in my family, but I am also currently “wasting” my college degree by being a professional seamstress/crafter. There’s no greater feeling than having parents and family who are proud of you no matter what.

Not to mention my boss left work just to come and see me! It’s really amazing to be so supported :) I’m so lucky.

So yes it was an awesome day and I think the turn out was great too. I feel that Lucky Lucille was well received, even by people who didn’t end up buying from me. I got lots of nice comments and I even shook hands with the mayor of Burlington. …though I think it was obvious I had no clue who he was because he asked me if I was new to the area haha!! Sorry!! I should probably pay attention to things like that. Whoops! Still a good day though.

Buuuuuuuut this was how I felt after getting up at 5:45am and a full day of craft fair craziness…
I was soooooo tired/wired. I hope I didn’t make too much a fool of myself at the end of the day as I tried making friends with other vendors. I had WAY too much coffee and not enough food. I’m sure some people will be remembering me as the crazy girl with huge glasses haha! That’s not too bad right? I could be remembered as way worse.

As much as I enjoyed the fair, I’m pretty relieved to just relax and get back to personal sewing and blogging. I have guest posts to work on and BIG bloggy/sewy plans for June that I can’t wait to share!

I definitely want to apply for the Fall edition of the Queen City Craft Bazaar, and at least now I’ll be way more prepared!

Thanks everyone for your good luck and well wishes! I had a great day :)
