Last year I started designing patterns under the name Rochelle New Handcrafted but I always kinda knew at the back of my mind that name would evolve. I didn’t expect it to happen so soon but at the end of last summer I started brainstorming what other kinds of patterns I wanted to develop and why. As I got more serious about the types of things I wanted to create and the bigger picture for my future as a pattern designer, a few specific words started getting louder in my head. Words like fiber, community, company, homemade… it was all starting to come together.
When it first hit me I wasn’t sure if it was the right name or not but as soon as I said it out loud it felt more and more right.
Home Row Fiber Co. has both a literal and deeper figurative meaning. Home and Row refer to rows of knitting and stitching done at home, but it’s also a play on the familiar typing term “Home Row” – the place you return to when you’re lost and need to reset. Fiber Company has a literal meaning of a business involving fabric and wool but the bigger meaning comes from our moral fiber and the company we keep and how that brings us all together as Makers under a common purpose.
Not to mention I’m also inspired by the rows of vineyards and crop lands I’m surrounded by here in the Finger Lakes region of New York, plus I’m a homebody at heart, So ‘Home Ro’ is kind of a play on my name as well.
I will also re-state from the first Home Row post that this blog isn’t going anywhere! Lucky Lucille will always remain my personal blog and will co-exist as a support and extension to Home Row. In many ways, most ways, nothing at all will change! I’ll share the same types of photos and content. I just put a more significant name on something I was always working towards.
To celebrate this new venture I’ve re-released the Pixie Wallet pattern with updated artwork and some small upgrades to the pattern instructions. If you previously purchased the Pixie Wallet pattern at any time last year you will receive an email from me with the updated files.
If you’re seeing Pixie for the first time you can find it in the shop, along with a big peek at my next pattern that is finished, tech-edited, and now in the hands of some capable testers! I’ve set a launch date for March 20th, the first day of Spring, so look forward to that! 🙂
I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s been following me and reading along whether you’re just finding me or you’ve been with me since the beginning (2012!). I’d be nothing without you <3
